HEY, I'M CHRIS

I created Défi Parkour when I moved to Sheffield in 2023. I have been doing flips for as long as I can remember and continue to train gymnastics, trampolining, parkour, climbing, tricking and high diving. Simply put, I like moving. I want my work to reflect this and I can think of no better way than sharing my love of the sport of parkour with you all. There were no Sheffield Parkour clubs and so Défi Parkour was born.

Défi Parkour is a place for everyone of all ages, backgrounds and identities. All abilities are welcome. This will be a place to connect, share and learn as well as do radical good in the community.

Welcome to the club. We look forward to having you with us!

WHAT IS PARKOUR?

compilation of some of the best parkour athletes in the world

Parkour is a sport that was formalised in the late 90s by French practitioners in Paris. It started as a training method to be able to run, jump and climb over objects in the environment. This core was taken by the founders of Parkour onto the streets of Paris where they used what they had around them to practise these movements.

The early practitioners of the sport splintered off and created new terms for what they were training e.g. Freerunning and L'Art du Déplacement (ADD).

Nowadays, most would consider it all to be different branches of the same sport which we call Parkour. Parkour takes inspiration from nature, how animals move in the wild, as well as other disciplines such as martial arts, gymnastics and climbing.

People from all around the world are practising this sport and adding their own take on the moves and inventing their own. What stays the same is the love of movement. In Parkour, there is something for everyone. From the dancing movements of Jason Paul, massive jumps of Dom Tomato to the challenges found by Storror.

Parkour doesn't have to be jumping over rooftops (but it can be). Parkour can be jumping from one curb to another or vaulting over a railing. It also helps build your 'Parkour Vision' to see possibilities in the world around you that you otherwise wouldn't have noticed. It helps you to understand what your body can and can't do and work towards improving it. You will battle fear and try to connect what your body can do vs what your mind thinks you can do. Most importantly it's just fun!
